MEET MAKEWAY

Makeway is North America’s first and only sneaker boutique for women and is completely run and funded by women. Established in 2020, it was created to solve the pain points for women who love sneakers but historically faced barriers. Makeway is more than just a retail shop.  It’s a safe, inclusive, and welcoming gathering space that uses its platform to celebrate and amplify those who have been left out of sneaker culture. THE FOUNDERS

SHELBY WEAVER

Co-Founder

Shelby is the owner & founder of Mack House, North America’s first self-service sneaker customization studio, as well as the Director of Basketball Advancement for the Toronto Raptors. Playing Basketball is what ignited her love for sneakers & she hasn’t looked back since. She founded Makeway because she was tired of putting up with an industry & retail experience that was unwelcoming & made for men, but more importantly, to build a safe place for women to come together in the name of sneakers.  Shelby also works with underserved youth as a basketball coach and mentor for her athete's off-court development. 

ABBY ALBINO

Co-Founder

Throughout her career, Abby has led PR & Marketing strategies for many sports & entertainment brands including Nike Toronto, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs, Foot Locker & many more. Currently, she is the Head of Brand and Business Strategy at Canada Basketball. 

As a proud child of immigrant parents, Abby also co-founded Rise Tribe, a non-profit aimed to power the next generation of Filipino-Canadian leaders. Her love of sneakers, streetwear culture & building community led her to launch Makeway as a way to give women a much-needed space to feel celebrated & to cultivate a community that has been, for so long, underserved.

THE SHOP

When designing the Makeway shop, we intentionally made the fixtures modular, so the store can adapt to the needs of our community & facilitate a wide range of partner activations & community programming initiatives. An approachable gathering space that feels like more than just a retail store.  A safe, adaptable space for the community.  To inquire about community programming in our space please email hi@shopmakeway.co

THE AGENCY

Makeway is more than a sneaker store. It's built genuine trust and connection with the community around it and bringing everyone together is and always will be Makeway's main priority.  Since opening, Makeway has established itself as an agency and works with brands who share our values and connects them with the audiences they want to engage with. We've hlped brands such as Jordan Brand Global, Nike Canada, Canada Goose, DHL, UGG Canada, Daigeo (Don Julio), Reebok Canada and many more amplify stories through Community Engagement, Brand Experiences, Brand Strategy, Content Production, and Community Impact.
